Things to Know When Contacting a Bed Bug Exterminator
Bed bugs are making a comeback tour! There was a time when the old rhyme was just a remnant of a problem. No more. If you have bed bugs, it is important to know that they are not in your home because you’re dirty or your residence is dirty. Also, they do not carry or transmit any diseases. At worst, they are a nuisance and may cause some skin irritation. For particularly light sleepers, bed bugs could wake them up. Killing Bugs
A professional bed bug exterminator will understand that getting rid of bed bugs isn't as easy as just spraying some chemicals and leaving the premises. Because the chemicals that kill bed bugs are based on touching the bug, they don't always work. Bed bugs hide out in electrical outlets and other small areas where the chemicals can't reach. If an exterminator thinks one application of chemicals is going to do it, he or she doesn't know how to deal with bed bugs. On the other hand, if the exterminator can use heat treatment, you may be able to do business. Make sure the exterminator has experience with bed bugs. Bed bugs are harder to kill than other pests.
Inspection Time
A bed bug treatment exterminator should inspect every living area of the home. Bed bugs won't just be present where you found them. They move from room to room in search of a meal, and every room should be inspected. If you ask the exterminator how he or she does the inspection, and the person says they go to the room where you found the bed bugs and that's it, find another exterminator.
Get References
An exterminator should be able to provide you with a couple of references. Make sure you contact those references and find out what type of experiences they had and if the bed bugs have returned. You might also ask about the demeanor of the person that came into the home and how the family felt after the treatment. While references should generally be good, you might also check online reviews and the Better Business Bureau. Unresolved complaints can be a red flag.
Get a Guarantee
Any good bed bug exterminator will guarantee his or her work. There will be stipulations, but the end result is that if the infestation comes back within a certain amount of time, you should be able to get follow-up treatment. You need to get a 3 month guarantee at minimum.
